Fun fact: Amsterdam has more restaurants per capita than Paris. No pressure.
Let’s get one thing straight: Amsterdam is not just stroopwafels and herring (though, honestly, respect to both). After eating our way through the city’s canals, cobblestones, and one too many pastries, we’ve compiled the shortlist for anyone who takes their food seriously and their calories recreationally 😝😜
These aren’t everywhere we went. These are the places we’d go back to. Some we already did. Twice. No shame.
🍳 Bakers & Roasters
@bakersandroasters
We loved it so much we went twice. No, we’re not embarrassed. New Zealand-inspired brunch vibes with flavor combinations that genuinely made us rethink breakfast as a concept. The eggs Benedict situation here? Life-changing. The coffee? Don’t get us started.
🔁 Repeat offender · Must-book for brunch
✨ Fun Fact: Bakers & Roasters is a New Zealand-owned café — which explains why the brunch game hits different. New Zealanders basically invented the modern brunch aesthetic that the rest of the world is still trying to copy.
☕️ The Coffee District
@thecoffeedistrict · willemsparkweg
There’s always a line. It’s always filled with locals. That’s your sign. The queue moves fast, the coffee is exceptional, and you’ll feel very cool standing outside on a Dutch street pretending you live there. Worth every minute of the wait.
☁️ Local-approved · Order and linger
✨ Fun Fact: The Dutch are the 2nd biggest coffee consumers per capita in the world, they drink an average of 2.5 cups a day!! This café’s perpetual line is basically a national tradition.
🥩 Cannibale Royale
@cannibaleroyale
Steakhouse with a rebellious name and zero fear of flavor. The star is obviously the steak but the side dishes here aren’t an afterthought, they’re a headliner. Fun, moody ambiance that makes dinner feel like an event. Bring someone you want to impress.
🔥 Dinner energy · Order all the sides
✨ Fun Fact: Amsterdam’s Jordaan neighborhood, where one of their locations sits, was originally a working-class area in the 17th century. Now it’s home to some of the city’s chicest restaurants and boutiques. A glow-up 400 years in the making.
🥗 SLA
@sla_amsterdam

After a week of glorious pastries and cheese on repeat, our bodies quietly staged a protest 😂😅 Enter SLA!!! Amsterdam’s answer to “I need a vegetable, urgently.” Fresh salads and grain bowls that are actually satisfying. Affordable. Fast. And absolutely no guilt required.
🌿 Guilt-free · Post-pastry detox approved
✨ Fun Fact: “SLA” literally means “lettuce” in Dutch. Simple. Honest. Iconic. The Dutch appreciate directness, I guess in communication and in salad branding 😂😜
🥮 Bun Bun
@bunbun.ams
We have no words. We have only feelings. The cinnamon rolls at Bun Bun are obscenely good 🤤🤤🤤 soft, gooey, warm, and sized like they were made for someone who truly deserves them (you). We gasped. We devoured. We considered moving to Amsterdam.
🌀 Peak pastry · No sharing policy recommended
✨ Fun Fact: The cinnamon roll craze in Amsterdam is heavily influenced by Scandinavian baking culture Sweden’s “kanelbullar” has been a UNESCO-recognized cultural tradition since 1999 💡
Go hungry. Leave happy.
Amsterdam will feed your soul, your camera roll, and your stomach usually all at once. Save this list, share it with a friend, and for the love of stroopwafels, don’t skip dessert!!!!
