From Here to VizEat: A Dining Experience with Locals

Recently, I discovered VizEat, an app where you can dine and connect with locals around the world. I was eager to try it out given I had heard good things and am always looking to make new friends anywhere I visit, especially with locals. Not only that, but this app offers unique dining experiences in over 110 countries with an array of options. I just got back from a trip to New York and saw there was a Spanish Paella meal being hosted by a VizEat host in Brooklyn, not far from where I was staying. My friend and I decided to go and we’re so glad we did because we enjoyed a fantastic meal and conversation of course centered around travel. I’m particularly excited to try this app again when I’m abroad and traveling solo. I think it will offer an amazing opportunity to connect and try new cuisines around the world.

How does VizEat work exactly?

You can download the VizEat app via GooglePlay or Apple’s App Store and sign up. The app itself is extremely user friendly. On the top it says “Where are you going?” or you can scroll through destinations on the home page based on where your next vacation is, anywhere in the world. You’ll see not only dining experiences but also cooking classes and wine tasting events, all with locals in that particular area. You can select what type of event you’re looking to go to based on date of availability and interest. As you scroll down, you’ll see pictures and descriptions of each event including location, cost, and the menu. As you click through each experience you’ll see more information about the Host including their personal profile (age, languages, work). You’ll also be able to see reviews of previous experiences from other users. Once you decide on one you’re interested in, you can simply request to book via the app and you’ll receive a response from the host for confirmation. Of course the host will also confirm the menu with you in advance in case you have any dietary restrictions.

Our VizEat Dining Experience

My friend Suzie and I booked the “Spanish Summer in Brooklyn” VizEat experience with Stacia in Brooklyn, New York. Stacia was an amazing host and super welcoming when we arrived. She had everything prepared when we walked in and we even arrived a bit early! We started our evening together with some assorted pintxos, including tortilla espanola and a toasted bread with mascarpone cheese and fig with a balsamic glaze. She also had lupini beans, which are traditionally eaten across the Mediterranean.

For the main course, we enjoyed seafood paella, which was beyond delicious, especially paired with some vino blanco. She also prepared a side of asparagus wrapped in a crisp prosciutto. Last but not least, we enjoyed mini churros with homemade chocolate dipping sauce. As a chocolate lover, I couldn’t help but inhale these! Check out the photo gallery below to see what Stacia prepared for us. Overall, we had a great time. I highly recommend VizEat as a unique dining experience and opportunity to make new friends and connect. Also, if you’re ever in Brooklyn, check out Stacia’s events since I can vouch that she’s a fantastic hostess with the mostess!
