Originally a man made lagoon, the Blue Lagoon Spa turned into an internationally known geothermal spa that opened to the public in 1992. It has become more and more popular ever since. Certainly a highlight of my Iceland trip, the Blue Lagoon offers a relaxing yet social environment. Below are tips to help you prepare for a visit.
Blue Lagoon Spa: 5 Things You Need to Know
- Definitely book your tickets in advance, at least a week before your visit and especially during high season (July). They will sell out! When you book tickets and if you go in summer, select the latest time available (9 PM) so you can see the Blue Lagoon in day light as well as the midnight sun, making it a truly unique experience.
- Select the Standard Tickets, it includes access to the lockers, use of the shower, as well as face masks. When packing, remember to bring your flip flops and towel otherwise you’ll pay for them separately.
- While planning your itinerary, carve out at least a full evening. In addition to the spa there is a sauna, steam room, waterfall, cafe, swim up bar, and a store with spa treatment products. To make the most of it, I recommend going for at least 3-4 hours.
- A lot of forums say you absolutely need to use conditioner before your hair gets wet. My friend and I did not properly condition our hair and we got our hair wet and did not have any issues afterwards. Just make sure you rinse off!
- In 2017, they are expanding the property to include a luxury hotel, restaurant and expanded spa. Meaning, the Blue Lagoon is only becoming more and more popular! Go now!
