Welcome To Suiran, A Luxury Collection Hotel In Kyoto

My friend Jen and I arrived at the Suiran, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Kyoto in the evening and were blown away from the minute we got out of the cab. Firstly, the grand entrance leads you down a path through a tranquil garden into the main lobby and check in area. Then, friendly staff welcome you as you tour through the property and your room. Suiran is a luxury 5-star hotel that’s part of The Luxury Collection so if you’re a Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) member you can use star points here. Similar to other Luxury Collection hotels, this property is unique and has a lot to offer.

Suiran Entrance & Outdoor Garden

The entrance is carefully attended to with a gorgeous garden and views overlooking the river, which is situated right next to the hotel. The outdoor area is relaxing and peaceful.

The Yuzunoha Deluxe Room At Suiran

When we got to our room, we took our shoes off and put comfy slippers on (standard protocol in Japanese culture). Everything was so neatly organized and clean. On the top of the beds were two Japanese style pajamas, one blue and one red…

We stayed in the Yuzonoha room on the main floor with our own private garden balcony and access to our very own natural hot spring. It made for a truly luxurious experience, we really couldn’t have asked for more! The beds were extremely comfortable and the room came complete with WiFi access, a flat screen TV, and safe. The room flowed into a living room area with a bright red colored table and low chairs set on a “Tatami” mat floor, called “Yuzonoha”. The bathroom was fully equipped and led outside to the hot spring which proved to be a really nice way to relax after a long day of exploring Kyoto.

Arashiyama Bamboo Forest

The surrounding area of Suiran is lush and set in nature, with temples scattered around. Arashiyama is a slow paced and small town that makes you feel at ease. It is quiet and easygoing, especially in comparison to the hustle and bustle of downtown Kyoto. Overall, we truly enjoyed staying here and exploring the surrounding area. Specifically, we appreciated being walking distance to the famous bamboo forest. We got there bright and early around 7 AM and there were hardly other tourists. Until around 8:30 AM, we had it all to ourselves!
