Every now and then, you just need to get a little fancy! Recently, my sister and I enjoyed Afternoon Tea at The Langham Hotel in Chicago. The Langham Hotels are 5 Star Luxury hotels and known to be exquisite. Afternoon Tea here is located in The Pavilion, a gorgeous room on the lobby floor that is beautifully decorated with upscale furnishings. We were warmly greeted and shown to our table whilst tranquil music played in the background. Before the tea is even served you feel a sense of calm in the air. At this point, my sister and I realized we need to schedule more tea time together! The experience was already so relaxing and lovely.
Our first order of business was to select our tea from the tea menu which features a wide array of green, black, and white teas. Our favorite was the “Palm Court Blend”, described on their menu as a “unique blend of finest quality Chinese white tea, hibiscus flowers, rose-hip and pink rose petals.” Our waiter told us we could try new teas but I fell in love with this one after first sip that I continued on with it. I mean, come on, it was not only delicious but also bright pink! My sister also sampled one of their classics, The Langham Tea which is a English Breakfast type tea.
Soon we were greeted with our first plate of sandwiches. We fell in love with the summer squash and eggplant tart. Also featured on the sandwich menu was a tasty fava bean and ricotta toast, BBQ chicken salad, and a Peekytoe crab. They were all done up with beautiful garnishes and for an afternoon snack I felt like the portions were perfect. The tea poured on and we soon saw the dessert tray making its way to us!
First, we were told to start with the scones while they were still warm, one lemon and one vanilla brown sugar. On the side, we had our choice of strawberry jam, lemon custard and cream for spreads. On the dessert tray, there is a delicious strawberry shortcake, a mango tart with lime gel, an almond cornmeal cake, and a chocolate dish filled with milk chocolate mousse and cocoa. As a chocolate lover, that was probably my favorite. However, the strawberry shortcake was just as tasty!
Overall, we had a wonderful experience at The Pavilion in The Langham. We not only had tasty treats and tea, but our waiter was also super friendly and welcoming. To wrap up our afternoon, we ended with a champagne toast! I’ve never been to a formal afternoon tea before, and I have to say, it was fabulous.
